Google Unveils Gemini App for Mac with AI Features

Google has launched its first standalone desktop app for Mac, the Gemini app, which brings the power of AI directly to macOS users. Responding to user requests for a native Mac app, Google developed Gemini in less than 100 days, incorporating over 100 features. Built entirely with Google Antigravity, the app allows users to access a Gemini prompt bar by pressing Option + Space, similar to the Windows version. This app not only supports general queries but also provides contextual insights by accessing open windows.

The Gemini app for Mac, coded in Swift, mirrors the web version's capabilities, offering a comprehensive suite of features including file uploads, notebook creation, and tools like Deep Research and Canvas. It also supports image, video, and music generation models, with more features promised in future updates. However, the app's distribution method might deter some users, as it is not available on the Mac App Store. Instead, users must download it directly from Google's website, though it is accessible in all regions and languages that support Gemini.
