Seeking Simple and Reliable S3 Alternatives

I just want a straightforward S3 solution that is reliable and not slow. Minio, once a contender, has shifted focus to the AI industry, leaving me unimpressed due to past issues with their testing practices. Garage, built in Rust, seemed promising but was overly complex and lacked some essential S3 features when I last checked. SeaweedFS, despite its innovative approach, disappoints with slow performance even on a local network.

CEPH is robust but overly complex for my needs, though it's a strong competitor to Amazon's S3. Versity GW, a lesser-known option, caught my attention for its ability to use local filesystems for S3 storage, offering fast, line-rate downloads on my LAN. It provides a web interface, handles policies, and uses xattrs for metadata, making it a practical choice for my requirements.

I discovered RustFS after deploying Versity. It's a new Rust-based solution claiming full S3 compatibility and impressive speed, though its Rust foundation and lack of FreeBSD ports pose challenges. Rclone can function as an S3 server, but its primary purpose is as a client, making me hesitant to rely on it.

Filestash offers a versatile, storage-agnostic file management solution, supporting numerous protocols. Zenko CloudServer and Supabase Storage, both NodeJS-based, present interesting concepts, with Supabase integrating Postgres for metadata and authorization. Ultimately, I'm content with Versity for now, while keeping an eye on future developments like a ZFS native object storage.
