The Evolution of My Generative Art Journey

Since 2016, I've been on a journey with generative art, which began as a simple programming exercise and evolved into a personal form of expression. Initially, I was captivated by the mathematical elegance of algorithms like the phyllotaxis spiral, which uses the golden angle to create natural patterns found in sunflower heads. My early works were more about illustrating mathematical concepts than creating art, as I focused on learning algorithms and tweaking parameters.

Over time, I grew tired of the clean, mathematical aesthetic and sought to create more tactile, handmade textures. This led me to explore techniques like simulating brush strokes and using particle systems to mimic organic textures like fur or hair. During this phase, I worked primarily in greyscale, which allowed me to hone my skills in form and texture without the complexities of color.

A pivotal moment was realizing the power of lines. By experimenting with line density and direction, I discovered that simple geometric primitives could evoke the appearance of physical materials. This insight propelled me towards simulating materials like watercolor and felt-tip pens, focusing on capturing the essence of these materials rather than physical accuracy.

Color has been my biggest challenge, as I lack formal training in color theory. However, through experimentation and studying art I admire, I've slowly developed an intuition for color. This ongoing learning process has transformed my art from algorithmic experiments to compositions where shapes, colors, and textures harmonize.

My artistic vocabulary has expanded with each new technique, allowing me to make deliberate choices between maximalism and minimalism. The focus has shifted from 'what can I do' to 'what do I want to say,' as I develop a personal aesthetic that guides my work.

Despite life's demands, I continue to create generative art at my own pace, valuing the patience and freedom it offers. This practice is a personal exploration of aesthetics, with no deadlines or pressures, just the joy of creation.
