Competitive jigsaw puzzling offers a unique blend of community spirit and personal challenge, as I discovered at the USA Jigsaw Nationals in Atlanta. With over 800 participants, the event was a colorful display of creativity and camaraderie, complete with quirky team names and coordinated outfits. Despite finishing 122nd out of 200, the experience was exhilarating. The physical strain of completing the puzzle in an hour and 20 minutes left me exhausted, yet the supportive atmosphere made it all worthwhile. Fellow puzzlers celebrated my effort, highlighting the welcoming nature of this niche sport. The addictive thrill of piecing together a puzzle under pressure, coupled with the encouragement from competitors, explains why many return to these contests year after year.
